LipoDissolve FAQ

LipoDissolve FAQ

  • What is LipoDissolve and is it safe?

LipoDissolve is a combination of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and deoxycholate (DC). Phosphatidylcholine (PC), also known as lecithin, is a naturally derived soy product. Deoxycholate (DC) is also a natural ingredient that dissolves fatty contents, it is a bile acid found in the intestine. Both ingredients are safe and natural.

  • What areas can be treated with LipoDissolve?

The commonly treated areas that are safe: abdomen, back, thigh, hips, saddlebags, love handles, flanks, pubic mound, and arms. Post LipoDissolve, local collagen production causes the skin and tissues to contract after treatment.

  • Does it hurt?

As the only way to administer LipoDissolve is via microfine injections through the skin, the treatment does entail some discomfort. Numbing cream may be applied prior to the procedure if necessary.

  • How effective is LipoDissolve?

Studies have shown that the average reduction in circumference is about 2-6 cm, depending on the area that is treated.

  • Who is suitable for LipoDissolve?

Most people are candidates for this procedure, but as a reminder, this is not a weight loss solution. LipoDissolve has better results with people already at their target weight, who suffer from stubborn areas of fat.

  • Are there any contraindications to LipoDissolve?

LipoDissolve is contraindicated in people allergic to soy, currently taking anticoagulants, the presence of an active infection in the treatment area, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Careful consideration is given to those with a systemic disease: kidney disease, heart disease, uncontrolled diabetes or hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease, and/or coagulation disorder.

  • How is LipoDissolve administered?

A consultation is required initially to assess and decide which areas of fat to treat. The area will be marked out on the skin and divided into smaller grids for measurement purposes to assess the amount of medication required to treat the area. Sometimes a numbing cream may be applied if necesssary. The LipoDissolve solution will be directly injected into the fatty tissues using microfine needles, similar to acupuncture needles. Injections take around 10-15 minutes and are easily tolerated. Injecting larger bodily areas may take more time.

  • When will I notice the results?

Within the initial two weeks, the treated areas begin to soften and minor bruising tends to resolve. The fatty tissue gradually begins to reduce in size. Most people may notice contour improvement around week 4. Maximum fat loss occurs around weeks 6-8, and maximum changes in contour are more noticable. It can take your body up to 12 weeks to fully remove the dissolved fat, permanent improvements continue to occur up to this time. As the body is preparing to eliminate the fat cell contents, slight lumpiness can sometimes be felt (but not seen) in the treated areas during the first 10 weeks.

  • Do I have to repeat the procedure and when?

It is recommended to have at least 2 sessions. More sessions may be needed depending on the area treated and the desired effect. The treatments are usually repeated 4-8 weeks apart.

  • Is LipoDissolve permanent? Will the fat ever come back?

LipoDissolve permanently destroys and removes some of your unwanted fat cells. Once they have been destroyed, they can never come back. And as we do not grow or develop new fat cells after puberty, the results are permanent. However, you can still increase weight if you do not watch your diet.

  • What are the possible side effects of LipoDissolve?

Side effects include: bruising, itching, redness, swelling, and tenderness.

Pain: minimal pain, usually lasts up to one hour and improves after. We recommend that you take ibuprofen 200-400mg one hour before your procedure for the pain. You may continue taking ibuprofen three times a day for the next 2-3 days as needed.

Swelling: swelling is usually very minor but avoid tight fitting clothes. This may be noticeable if a large amount of fat is being dissolved. Any swelling that does occur usually resolves over the first few days. Aside from mild swelling and bruising there is virtually no ‘down time’ so you can return directly to work or social life.

Itching: antihistamines (claritin) may be taken on the day prior to the procedure for itching. You may continue this for 2-3 days as needed.

    Bruising: possible with any injections

Tenderness: this may last up to 4-5 days.
